Service Description: Mussel density contours were developed for 42 guild combinations in West Newton Chute. This process involved multiple steps. First mussel sampling quadrat points were extracted for each year. A minimum convex polygon study area boundary was developed using all sampling quadrat points. Next, Theissen polygons were developed for each sampling quadrat point location for each year. Thiessen polygons are polygons whose boundaries define the area that is closest to each point relative to all other points. Then a surface averaging the density values of these Theissen polygons was developed using a circular window with a radius equal to the distance between quadrats for each year/mussel guild. This distance varies each year but is typically around 25 meters. Finally, mussel density contours for each year/mussel guild combination were created using the mussel density surface as input. Contour lines represent minimum mussel density value for each guild. These layers were compiled and published as an ArcGIS Server web mapping service.
